Holy Cross Pentecostal Church International

Late Apostle Sam Harry Gama - Founder

Background

The founding leader of Holy Cross Pentecostal Church International was late Apostle Dr. Harry Sam Gama who was born on 10 September 1948 and went to be with the Lord on 29 September 2023.
He was the lead founder of the church in the year 1985 in Bangwe, Blantyre.  After several occurrences and prayers, the church spread to Lilongwe even as the founder also relocated there. Currently the church has its headquarters in Lilongwe, Malawi.

Apostle Dr. Harry Sam Gama led a team of three as founders; late Apostle L.J Kachingwe, Apostle G. Phiri and himself. Apostle Dr. H.S Gama was working with United Transport Company of Malawi (UTM). This was a state owned bus company. He was working as a bus Inspector. Initially based in Blantyre.
Late Apostle L.J Kachingwe was working with Malawi Institute of Education (MIE) where they were printing secondary school learning materials called “Sets”. Apostle G. Phiri was working with Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) the tax collecting institution in Malawi.

Apostle Dr. H.S Gama was a spiritual son to Apostle L.J Kachingwe who ministered to him to receive Jesus Christ and be born again after. The trio had a 40 days prayer and fasting to seek the face of the Lord as part of guidance from God on the ministry in conception. In 1985, they started the ministry in the name Born Again Ministries. Some Government Officials who advised them to change the name criticized it. It is after this that it was named Holy Cross Pentecostal Ministries, then later Holy Cross Pentecostal Church International.

The church is governed through a well-defined leadership structure. It is led by nine bishops, each of whom is responsible for overseeing a district. Every district is subdivided into five to ten zones, which are under the leadership of reverends who provide spiritual guidance, supervision, and coordination within their zones.

Each zone is further divided into five to ten local branches. These branches represent the grassroots level of the church’s ministry and are led by local pastors. The local pastor oversees the church, which is the smallest administrative and spiritual unit, and is responsible for pastoral care, teaching, evangelism, and the day-to-day activities of the congregation.
